An Actor with Local Roots at Eggtc. Shawnee

CX3A4478Meet Jake Amzy (Smith), a face you may recognize from our Midland location. If you are a local theatre-goer, or even a “Jayhawker,” you’ve likely seen Jake doing what he does best: acting.

After recently being accepted to NYU’s MFA Acting program, likely the most sought after actor training program in the country, we thought you might like to learn a little more about the character serving your Eggs Benedict!

Jake’s most notable role was portraying Malcolm in the Shakespeare classic, “Macbeth”, which was directed by Tony award winning director Tazwell Thompson. In 2012, Jake traveled to the Shanghai International Contemporary Theatre Festival to play Joe Keller in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” And, if you’re a KU fan, Jake also played Coach Jerry Waugh in Kevin Willmott’s film “Jayhawkers.”

Jake is currently in rehearsals for “The Great Gatsby”, playing the role of Nick Carraway at Theatre Lawrence, which premiers on April 11th. Jake says, “It will be great: live jazz music, wonderful sets, an amazing director (Jack Wright) and a veteran cast.”

When asked what Jake’s favorite eggtc. meal is, he replied, “Whatever Francisco makes me! But really, the grilled turkey sandwich with avocado and sweet potato fries.”

And coffee? “Coffee is meant to be black. I want to taste it. Though my drink of choice lately is an iced dirty chai. I’m also big on green tea.”

On his history at eggtc., Jake joined the Midland team last September. “It’s been a wonderful place to work. Great bosses and co-workers!”

So, whether you’re checking out Jake’s performance at breakfast time, or you’d like to support him on the big stage, be sure and say hello!
